  1. I think there is so much potential in this topic. You can talk about different foods, put them in categories, talk about nutrition, as well as what plants need to grow. You can make how to book: How to care for a garden? How to plant tomatoes? There are lots of food-themed books out there. See http://www.amazon.com/Food-themed-books-for-kids/lm/RXPBTHJTMLNY9

Language Objective: Students will be able to re-tell de story representing a play with the vegetable vocabulary words and emphasize the friendship constructed while the vegetable garden was planted.
Learning Strategy Objective: Students will create a word list of different names of vegetables: and other words about garden.
Activate Background Knowledge: Tell student they`re going to listen to a real story about a little girl and her family. Invite the students to see a real vegetable garden at school if there is one there, or go to another place, if possible. If this action is not possible, show the pictures and ask some questions such as: “Do you like vegetables? Have you ever seen a vegetable garden? Do you know how good the vegetables are for our health? Do you eat vegetables? How often do you eat vegetable? How do you eat vegetables? Do you eat salad? And soup?”
Introduce New Vocabulary: carrot, pumpkin, tomato, potato, lettuce, onion beet, cabbage, digs, plant, water, shovels, hose, grow, harvest.
Show some pictures of vegetables and ask the name of the vegetable on the picture and repeat the name several times. Afterwards, show the pictures with the names of the vegetable. Next, show a Bingo card and play a Bingo Game with different pictures in different orders, and give a prize to the winners.
Picture Walk: They are very curious and excited about the story of the book and they are going to listen it with enthusiasm. Go through the pages observing the pictures and ask the student to describe them and lead the students to guess the scenes they are seeing.” Who is this girl in the first page? Who is this woman? Is she her mother? What are they doing? What about this people, who are they? What are they doing? Are they their neighbors? Why is the mother writing on these papers? Look at the garden! The plants are growing!”
